A few are talking about trying out vanilla.RE as it is meant to be getting our char database once it goes live.

Would be nice.

But after the stuff with playtbc, I will wait and see.

From PlayTBC fourms:

Everyone,

as i am sure you have all noticed the last few days have not been smooth for a variety of reasons, some caused by external issues and some from genuine oversights on behalf of staff, so i wanted to talk to you about what has been discussed behind the scenes and try and be transparent about what will be happening in terms of the staff (note this will not be info about the servers coming up or down)

Up until recently this was a small project, some friends with good knowledge of developing and with a love for TBC who wanted a blizzlike server with aspirations of having a few hundred to maybe a thousand people. Now as we all know Nost got shut down and that brought a lot of attention to the private server scene and especially to us here at PlayTBC as we were the next Blizzlike server to be releasing. I assure you we feel like we have let you down, both as a staff and as players who wish to enjoy TBC again along side you all, so first of all i wish to Apologise on behalf of the team.

about 1-2 weeks ago upon seeing how many accounts were all of a sudden being created and projections for server numbers the small team of people decided to recruit almost 3x (possibly even more) the amount of staff to help handle the influx of people, however it was decided to keep the release date to the 14th and in hindsight this was genuinely an oversight, we have close to the number of staff we need, but we did not put enough emphasis on making sure everyone was in a role that was suited to their skillset and experience (we simply wanted to find trustworthy and enthusiastic people to help cope with the vastly increasing playerbase) nor did we create clear lines of communication between the different departments (devs>admins>GM's>community managers>mods) and as you have seen this has led to us coming across poorly in certain areas, which combined with the attacks on the server and not meeting our deadline how we would have liked to, we understand why you are all frustrated and feel let down.

Now we have spoken in depth amongst ourselves and have a much clearer idea of how we wish to proceed as a team, people will be reorganised in roles that are suited to them (social media members being versed on all social media and not just one platform, so no more disorganised tweets) CM's addressing people with announcements and not whichever GM happens to be around at the time, no matter how good his/her intentions are, as when people are frustrated they like to scrutinize every word said and it ends up causing more headaches than it solves. these changes will be happening over the next few days along side fixing the bugs reported and various other things (please note servers will be done at their own pace and this restructure will not adversely affect that) and we hope that if you give us as a team a little understanding we will do our best to give you the server you all want and hope it can be.

to give a wow analogy, basically the staff behind playTBC were similar to a IRL friends raiding guild who had decent aspirations and one day wake up to find out "hey we could be a world top guild" and people are paying attention to us but that would mean restructuring and recruiting or replacing some people in the name of progression and hurting feelings. Well the team behind playTBC was in a similar predicament, their smallish server with humble aspirations got catapulted into "the next big thing" almost overnight and a decision had to be made about the direction to go with the staff involved as to whether to keep it friend based and led by personal feelings or to take it in the direction of put feelings aside and do whats best for the community and the server, and as you can see from this post we decided on the latter.

please remember most of us are 100% volunteers here, sure we have a variety of knowledge and experience but we are giving up our free time to bring you this server, also understand that some staff have the best intentions and simply want to inform you about things on discord or social media as they arise because they were feeling your frustrations but this was simply thrown back at us as the information provided was not worded properly or eloquently enough and people picked it apart out of frustration.

none of this however excuses how turbulent the last few days have been and we own up to that, but simply ask for some understanding and to inform you of how we wish to proceed in the coming days to make things more professional and a more stable place to be as a community. we also know there has been talk of people going to other servers and honestly that is up to each of you, we will not try to stop anyone who wishes to go because you feel let down, however, we very much appreciate those of you who wish to stick by us.

thank you in advance for taking time to read this and we hope this gives people a better insight into the team and how things will be moving forward.

Archaius.

on a side note - if anyone feels like they could contribute as a member of staff and has some free time, PM some information about yourself and what you could bring to the team and we will get back to those of you who have what we am looking for.

From PlayTBC's Twitter:

1/2 We are sad to say that we will not release before 12:00 (noon) GMT+1 tommorow (that is Sunday). We are nearly finished the required

2/2 improvements and it's sad to postpone it now, but this is a decision we had to make. We are not in a ready state to release

3/2 the server when more than half the staff are unable to function due to lack of sleep. Thank you for your understanding again.

Do you have any protection services? yes

Are you recruiting staff? Check out our forum post (I realize it may be down atm)

Is Yangtze going to be available? yes

Is DDOS the only reason you aren't releasing? Mostly yes

I have experience with _ and and I want to help. We are not rushing through the process of hiring, if we don't know you we can't accept your help atm

Will you implement 1-70 server first achievement? Possibly. It's being discussed

Are you ignoring my question? NO. I Have to scroll down for a minute just to get to this channel

When will server release? Can I go to bed safely? etc..   Go to bed, go outside, take a break. We do not have an answer for ETA

Will you delay launch to get rid of DDOS? If we delay the attackers will simply pick up where they left off

Do you need money? We are capable of supporting the server and have increased spending to counter delays

Why won't you launch so people can create characters? Rested XP will start accumulating which is why we wiped the database in the first place

Clearly the login server works, why won't you let us play? Because at the moment the server has over 4 seconds of delay without any players connected

What is the realmlist? freedom.playtbc.com

What will you do with regards to faction imbalance? We will implement free character transfers from the more populated side to the lesser. This is one way only and will stop when the population has approached a reasonable split

Why are there people online right now according to the website? These are just GMs

Have you implemented any dynamic respawn? Yes

If one of the servers is really underpopulated what will you do? We could attempt to entice  players from other realms to transfer or merge servers. We will have to decide based on the time

How does the instant 60 work/what Items will I get? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFmu6JVhjlY
YouTubePlayTBC comPlayTBC Official - Instant 60 Feature Presentation

Wil you implement dual spec / transmog / other features from later expansions? No.

Will you reduce the respec cost? Only if we determine it will directly increase activity in PvP and PvE (if one was lacking).

What is the population cap? 3500

Can I donate for a name reserve? No.

How do you plan to deal with server when its nighttime for most eu/na ? Most of our staff aren't sleeping lately as they are putting in many hours.

Why didn't I receive a confirmation email or any email at all? We are working on a solution but essentially it boils down to gmail capping the amount of emails an account can send per day

How come when I donated money I did not receive points? Document all proof that you did this and send it to an administrator at a later date. If you send it now it will likely get missed, this issue can be solved at a later time

Don't know if it significant or not, but on the PlayTBC.com main site, the realmlist changed to:

freedom.playtbc.com

When using this new realmlist, I was able to log in and pull up the four servers, Amazon, Nile, Yangtze, and Developers. They still say 'Locked' when in game and looking at them, and if you try to access one you get disconnected. But it seems like there is some progress, finally, which I am more than happy to report to everybody about.

So have faith, they are working on it, I was concerned for a quite a bit on the state of the server.

Cheers,

Aigaion

Now the TBC forums are being kept offline until they can deal with the DDoS stuff. From the PlayTBC twitter:

1/2 We are working hard to combat the persistent attacks and restore the website

2/2 & Forums. The server will not be restored until we are satisfied with it's stability.

Someone from the community is organizing all of the news passed down from the PlayTBC staff.

One of the key points brought up so far is that the characters that had been created already will (almost certainly) be wiped so everyone starts fresh. Sorry Cynias and Papercut, looks like you have to go through the anxiety all over again.

The front door to their site is not working but you can still get in through a window apparently....

And just in case the forums go down too, here's what Peanutbutter posted:

Hello everyone.

I hate to be writing this post but it has to be done.

We were not prepared for approximately 18000 attempts at accessing the login servers simultaneously, concurrently with fighting off ongoing DDOS attacks we've been experiencing this week.
The server's hardware was not capable of so many connections at once and went down shortly after launch.

We have been taking steps to upgrade the hardware and restore the servers as quickly as possible.

Additionally, we are not providing any detailed information as to when the project will be up. As soon we are satisfied with the upgrades we will bring it online again. We expect this take at the very most, 1-2 days.

Our goal for gradual increase in population on launch day was short sited as many players were willing to wait however long it took. Hopefully this time around having a vague and large window will alleviate some strain and let players start experiencing the project gradually.

We now ask of you all, the players and community:

  • Have patience!

  • Go about your lives, please don't sit there and refresh all day. Checking back once in a while will save you frustration and unwanted stress that would occur otherwise. There is plenty of that going around already.

The staff.
